Our Team

Ishwinder Grewal, B.A.Sc., M.A.Sc., P.Eng., President

Ish_Grewal_met-solve_labsIsh has over 19 years experience in the metallurgical and mineral processing industry, focused on research and development, mineral processing and hydrometallurgical separation and metal recovery systems.

He obtained his bachelors degree in Metals and Materials Engineering from The University of British Columbia (UBC). He went on to complete his master's degree, also at UBC, specializing in hydrometallurgy with a focus on high pressure and temperature leaching systems.

After completing his graduate studies, he spent 4 years conducting hydrometallurgical research at UBC, in areas such as gold-cyanide and base metal leaching systems, high temperature/pressure leaching processes and various ion-exchange and solvent extraction methods. He then joined Placer Dome as a Research Metallurgist at their research and testing laboratory in Vancouver . His responsibilities included metallurgical testing for feasibility and pre-feasibility studies, operating complete grind-gravity-flotation and leaching pilot plants and testing cyanide destruction and recovery technologies.

In 1998, he joined Knelson Concentrators, where he built and managed the Knelson Research & Technology Centre. He coordinated research and development projects related to gravity concentration within Knelson as well as at various universities and research organizations around the world. He also developed a PC based mathematical model for understanding gravity gold recovery in grinding circuits.

In recent years, he devoted his expertise and knowledge in the metallurgical industry as an independent consultant, laying the foundation in 2006 for the start up of Met-Solve Laboratories Inc.

Alex Lum, P.Eng., Metallurgical Engineer

Alex_Lum_metallurgistAlex has 17 years experience working in process development, research and conducting detailed laboratory test work. His most recent tenure in the industry was with Aker Kvaerner Chemetics at their Technology Centre in Burnaby, British Columbia.

He has extensive background in chemical systems, especially in the area of electrochemical processing and corrosions analysis. His experience in electrochemical field includes laboratory testing, analytical and site support for sodium chlorate, chloralkali and chlorine dioxide plants in Indonesia, Australia and Canada. His work in the corrosion field focused on sulfuric acid environments including investigations in accelerated electrochemical and microbiologically induced corrosion phenomenon.

His most recent work has focused on hydrometallurgical systems including leaching of ores under ambient and high temperature/pressure autoclave conditions.

Alex graduated from the The University of British Columbia (UBC) in Metals and Materials Engineering where he conducted his undergraduate work in Hydrometallurgy, studying the kinetics of solvent extraction of zinc from perchlorate solution using Di 2-ethyl-hexyl phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) under the supervision of Dr. David Dreisinger.

Danny Kwok, Metallurgist

Danny_Kwok_metallurgistDanny has a Bachelors of Applied Science in Mining and Mineral Process Engineering from The University of British Columbia (UBC).

His previous experience includes working at a laboratory that provided services to the diamond exploration and mining industry.  He handled/processed diamond exploration samples and upgraded/maintained water recycling systems working very closely with the tails processing system. He also developed skills in the operation of Micro-DMS and magnetic separations systems.

Danny gained valuable experience at Falconbridge Ltd (Sudbury) as a Student Intern where he performed weekly ventilation readings, heat stress monitoring, surveying duties with lead technician and water sampling. His other responsibilities included taking part in a long term study of a mine ventilation installation project while working closely with the health and safety committee.

Most recently, he served as Project Research Assistant with Dr. Bern Klein in the Mining and Mineral Process Engineering department at UBC. His work there included investigations on ultra-fine grinding, garnet recovery, mine-mill integration methods and assisted in testing various process flow sheets.
